About
I have a deep passion for books. My home is filled with a diverse array of books—new, old, rare and a few are wrought by hand. Each one holds its own unique beauty, whether it’s a beautifully bound tome or well-loved volume in need of care. I appreciate every book for memories and stories, not just through the words on their pages but also through the condition of its binding and how it has been treated throughout its life. With four years of study in bookbinding and conservation under experts like Monique Lallier and Don Etherington (IYKYK), along with additional training at the American Academy of Bookbinding I employ Japanese paper techniques for restoration. The Difference
The difference between the techniques I’ve been taught and the most book repair is apparent in the pictures posted below. Many book binders use cloth for rebacking. If the book has already been significantly damaged you want it to look as close to the original as possible. This can be achieved with the use of dying japanese paper. The paper is stronger and will last longer than leather. Contact me at cricket@virginiabookrestoration.com Please contact me before you ship your books.
